Some of my closest friends took me out to dinner at Stonewood tonight to celebrate my 22nd birthday. I had an awesome time and an excellent filet, so it made for a great birthday. The coolest part was that two of my spheres merged for a couple hours as friends–all close, but very different–from different times and aspects of my life came together and talked and laughed and just had a good time. It was refreshing to decompartmentalize my life for a short time, so I could enjoy company and fellowship as it is meant to be enjoyed. I am very blessed.

I also happened to be thinking about the name Stonewood and how, at first glance, it seems like an oxymoron: Not only are stone and wood totally different, but they seem as though they are mutually exclusive characteristics–much as dry and wet. In fact, stone and wood can not only co-exist, but they can simultaneously describe one object: If wood is submerged in water for a very long period of time, under the correct climatic conditions, it will petrify, thereby becoming stone.

For some reason, I found that to be pretty intriguing.
